Did You Know? - The Most Expensive Poop In The World

I was drinking coffee while doing my assignments just now and something popped in my head,

Now, did you know?

THE MOST EXPENSIVE COFFEE IN THE WORLD IS EXTRACTED FROM ANIMAL POOP?!

It sure is. Oh yeah~ (* u *)

It's called Kopi Luwak! (Note the different spelling for coffee, this is because this coffee originates from Indonesia)

FYI, the beans from this coffee are extracted from the poop of a type of cat/civet, namely the Asian Palm Civet, which are profoundly found in Sumatera, Indonesia and Johor, Malaysia.

Maa~n I'm proud to be South-East Asian~~ *smug*

"Why would they do such things?!" , you ask?

Well, it's basically scientific. The enzymes produced by the civets in their digestive systems are apparently really good in enhancing the coffee beans' flavours.
(I'm a future English teacher, not a bio teacher, so if you need more info, you can find it here)

Also, I remembered watching a documentary saying that these cats are experts in choosing the best coffee cherries. So the coffee cherries that they ate are the best out of the bunch, hence the quality is a lot better than those that are man-chosen.

"How did you find out about this?", you ask?

Well, I first came across this info when I was watching one my favourite Japanese TV show, Shoujiki Shindoi. The images used above are taken from that very episode (credits to TV Asahi).

And in that episode, it was revealed that the Kopi Luwak that the host and guests from the episode drank that day costs them 5000yen per cup! That's like NZD 77!!

($ .... $)

Phew~
